Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Flexible Workspace Program

Since Spring 2021, Ontario Tech has initiated efforts to examine how to best respond to the changing nature of work and expectations of our valued employees.  Underscoring this approach was a commitment from our President, Dr. Steven Murphy, to move our university away from pre-pandemic norms and settings that defined the traditional workplace.

In early 2022, Ontario Tech launched our Flexible Workspace Pilot Program for administrative staff. Since then, the university has worked toward an adaptive model of work that responds positively to the evolving needs of employees and expectations of students, the advances in technology, and the quality of services and supports that best serves our campus community.

The success of this program has included engagement with and feedback from our employees, all of which has and will continue to shape the best fit for work life at Ontario Tech in the future.

The core objectives of our Flexible Workspace Strategy are people-focused:

  1. Continue to remove barriers that will advance diversity, inclusion and belonging.
  2. Strengthen employee engagement and the values-based approach to what we do and how we do it.
  3. Support employee health and wellness.
  4. Expand our reach into talent pools residing beyond traditional hiring boundaries.
