Let's Talk Day

Let’s Talk Day in Canada (Wednesday, January 21) focuses on advancing mental health by raising awareness, reducing stigma, and improving access to education and support. This year's theme is taking a moment for mental health. Ontario Tech University’s Mental Health Action Plan identifies themes and actions for supporting employee mental health and well-being. 

What's Happening

Booths

On Wednesday, January 21, visit the mental health information tables in the atriums of Charles Hall between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and Shawenjigewining Hall between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to:

  • Learn more about accessing campus mental-health resources.

  • Interact with pets from Therapeutic Paws of Canada

  • Receive Let’s Talk Day giveaways.

Gift Card Prize Draw

Visit either booth or send a photo to wellnessatwork@ontariotechu.ca on or before January 21 to share how you take a moment to support your mental health to be entered into our random prize draw for Amazon gift cards!

Workshops - Register today!

  • Learning to Recharge: Tues., Jan. 27 from 1-2 p.m. in-person, SHA-037 --> Participants receive a Break Kit and will be entered into a random draw to receive a 1-year subscription to Calm.
  • The Working Mind-Employee Cohort: Thurs., Jan. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. virtual --> This evidence-based course featuring newly released updated contentis designed to initiate a shift in the way you think, feel and act with respect to mental health by increasing your awareness, reducing stigma and other barriers to care in the workplace, encouraging mental health conversations, and strengthening your resilience.
  • Mental Health in the Digital Age Lab 
    The MHDA Lab is hosting a week of interactive events from January 21–28, open to Ontario Tech University students and faculty, as well as members of the wider community.
    Join us for inspiring workshops centered on wellness, resilience, and mental health support, for ourselves and for those in our circle of care, including children, older adults, students, friends, and colleagues. Each session is designed to help open the door to conversations that truly matter.

    Events are hosted by:
    Dr. Jennifer Laffier, Assistant Professor in the Frazer Faculty of Education and licensed Mental Health Professional with 30 years of experience. Dr. Laffier is a licensed Psychotherapist, Creative Arts Therapist and trauma Specialist. She specializes in digital wellness, trauma-informed practices, and wellness across the lifespan. She has worked extensively in private practice with clients of all ages, focusing on mental health concerns such as anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, and suicidal ideation.
    Madison Westley is a Doctoral student in the Fraser Faculty of Education and a licensed teacher. Ms. Westley is trained in trauma-informed care and provides workshops and education seminars on trauma-informed practices related to media and technology.
